Berlinale Special 2024

SHIKUN, by award-winning Israeli filmmaker Amos Gitai, is inspired by a Eugène Ionesco’s play and addresses the challenges of contemporary coexistence through a building in Israel. With the prestigious French actress Irène Jacob in the protagonist role (‘THREE COLOURS: RED’, Kieslowski’s Oscar-nominated film in the 90s), Shikun is “an ironic metaphor of a divided country in which we, Israelis, Palestinians and others, we try to simulate how life can happen in this microcosm in the utopian days to come”, reflects Gitai. Shikun is in the 2024 Berlin Film Festival’s Official Selection and is a partnership with CDP, Agav Films and Jeremy Thomas, the legendary English producer of works such as THE LAST EMPEROR.
